Driving for us

How do I become a driver?

Start by ringing the office for an initial chat with the Coordinator.

You will then need to bring to the office a:

  • comprehensive insurance certificate
  • clean driving licence
  • passport
  • proof of home address (e.g. a bill dated within the last three months)

You will need to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which we will arrange for you.

Once accepted, inform your insurance company that you are going to become a volunteer driver and will be paid a mileage allowance; you will usually be covered at no extra premium.

Next, arrange with the Coordinator the time of day or week which suits you. Some drivers prefer “all day on Tuesdays”, or “Thursday afternoons”, or simply “I have spare time throughout the week – try me!”

The Coordinator will then contact you to arrange the details of your trip.

You will need to keep a note of the details of the passenger to be taken and the mileage covered, calculated from your home and back to your home so that you can complete your mileage claim.

Your mileage claim will be paid into your bank account monthly.

Please contact the Coordinator if you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, as your help would be greatly appreciated.

Come and join our Award Winning Team. We think you would find driving for us a fulfilling experience.
